12 week appointment!

Yesterday was our 12 week appointment with the maternal/fetal specialist. The NT scan looked great, meaning little to no risk of Down's Syndrome or Trisomy 18. Baby wouldn't cooperate so it took a while. Kyle and I really enjoyed it because we were able to watch the baby moving around the whole time. It kept rubbing it's hands on it's eyes and forehead and arching it's back. It was awesome. :) They also took several large vials of blood to test for a range of genetic diseases. We'll get the results back in about a week.

After the ultrasound tech did the NT scan, we met with the specialist and discussed our history, my Crohn's disease, etc. He said that the only thing we should do in addition to the regular OB appointments are fetal growth checks every six weeks. They like to watch babies of mothers with Crohn's to make sure they're growing enough (getting enough nutrients). Obviously we we're all for extra ultrasounds!

The ultrasound tech asked us if we wanted to know the sex (of course we said yes!) and she said that she would guess girl. So when the Doctor came in, we asked him to check too. He pushed REALLY hard on my stomach for a while and then he said, "I'd say there's an 80% chance it's a girl." He said that all babies have a phallus at this stage but for boys it points up and for girls it points down. Our baby's was pointing down. Neither Kyle or I saw what he was looking at, but since both he and the ultrasound tech said girl, we're guessing they're probably right. It's too early to start buying clothes or painting the nursery pink, but it's pretty exciting!!!

Here's our sweet, uncooperative baby (girl?). You can see the hand just above the head, the profile of the face starting to show, and one of the legs.
