Yesterday was Charlie's 15 Month Check-Up. Overall, he is a healthy growing boy. He is in the 13th percentile for weight at 21 pounds, 13 ounces and the 45th percentile (woo hoo!) for height at 31 inches. The doctor was very impressed with his ability to climb up and down off the bench seat in the room and said that he seems like an advanced climber...great. She also saw some inflammation in his nose and throat and suggested Children's Claritin.
On his milestones, Charlie did great except for his speech development. The milestone for this age is 5-10 words. I don't think Charlie is there. He says a few things (Mama, Ga (dog), and ooohh (Woof)). Sometimes he has said nana for banana and Dada, and people tell me he can say duck and Elmo, but all of those are very inconsistent. The doctor asked a lot of questions about his understanding of words and I told her that he understands everything, he just can't say it. She also wanted to know if he has improved since he started his Mother's Morning Out program. He has started babbling a lot more, so I do think there has been some improvement. She said that he is definitely behind but not enough to require an evaluation by a speech therapist. It's not uncommon for kids who stay home to be a slow to develop their speech, and boys are usually slower than girls. So we'll just keep doing what we're doing (lots of reading and repeating the names of objects he wants) and continue to spend more time with other kids. More playdates in our future!
