This is our temporary home...

Last week, Kyle and I got an email that had been forwarded from the Hall County Animal Shelter. They needed foster homes for 60 dogs for the next several weeks (until April 29th). At that time, they will be taking all of the dogs up to Connecticut to participate in a huge dog adoption day. They said there will be over 300 dogs from the southeast and all of them will be adopted. Apparently they don’t have dogs available for adoption up there. Most people have to buy a dog from a breeder or come south to find a rescue. So they have these events to bring rescue dogs up north. We went up to the shelter Saturday morning to pick out two dogs.



Kyle fell in love with this Rottweiler/Mix. We think he has some Dalmatian in him because he is really smart and has A LOT of energy. He’s about 2 years old and definitely still has some puppy in him. He is fairly well behaved and so far he seems housebroken. (YAY!) He really is like a 2 year old child. He is curious about everything and he takes everyone else’s toys and hides them under his legs when he lies down. Luckily, our dogs don’t care about their toys. We named him Bauer. (Yes, like Jack Bauer from 24.)

We named the other one Yoshi (as in Super Mario Bros.) because he walks funny and it looks like he’s hopping. I picked him out because he was shaking in the corner of his cage and he was the only dog I saw who looked really scared. I just had to get him out of there. He was dropped off at the shelter when he was really small and he’s now only 3-4 months old. He’s lived at the shelter for almost his whole life. He walks funny because his legs are so weak from malnutrition as a puppy and because he spent so much time sitting in a crate.

The vet told us that he will slowly get stronger and will be fine. But we have to limit his “play time” because he is so weak. He has already come out of his shell quite a bit, but he still feels most safe in a crate or under a chair.

So far they have been a lot of work, but we love them already. On the way home from the shelter, Bauer pooped in the car and then threw up in the car as we were pulling into the driveway. And yesterday I had to take them both to get rabbies shots. On the way there, Yoshi threw up as I was pulling into the shelter! So my car needs some professional cleaning, but they are obviously so much happier than they were 3 days ago and that makes it all worth it. :)

In other news, we met Stephanie & Ryan's little one, Ryder VanHook this weekend. Isn't he adorable?! Mom, Dad, & Baby are all doing great!
