Charlie's Birthday

Charlie was very excited about his birthday this year. He has been telling people that he is almost three years old (as he holds up three fingers). In fact, at his Playball medal ceremony, the teacher asked the class if they knew what holiday was coming. All the kids yelled out, "Christmas!" And Charlie yells, "and my birthday! I be three years old!"

On the morning of his birthday, I brought him his usual granola bar and milk first thing in the morning. I put a lit candle in the granola bar and sang happy birthday to him. He looked very excited for a minute and then he said, "Mommy, why you not bring me cake with my candle?" Gawd. Sorry kid. Next year I'll step it up.

Our plan for the day was to drop Holly and Nana & Poppy's house and then go to the aquarium with Mommy, Daddy, Lili, and Aunt Alex. We haven't been in a really long time and Charlie was so excited that Daddy got to come too.

Charlie stuck by Daddy to make sure he knew where to go.

Once inside, we went straight to Charlie's favorite part - the huge tank with whale sharks and manta rays. Lili and Charlie watched the whale sharks being fed.

Then we moved on to the touch pond.

After a quick trip around some of the exhibits, we stopped for lunch before the dolphin show. I told Charlie he could have anything he wanted. He chose french fries and broccoli...and a chocolate cup cake. He does not mess around when it comes to eating chocolate cake!

Ready for the dolphin show with Daddy.

Checking out the penguins...

...and the sea otters.

Before heading home we got a quick picture outside.

After the aquarium, we went home, took naps, opened presents, picked up baby Holly, and headed out to Charlie's favorite restaurant - Cracker Barrel - for a birthday dinner. The servers brought Charlie cake and Happy Birthday to him. At first he was really embarrassed.

But by the end he liked it.

Holly was pretty excited to get her first bite of cake also.

It was a super fun day for all of us, especially our big three year old boy!
