6 Weeks Old

Charlie turned 6 weeks old on Thursday. I think I said Wednesday in an older post, but he was actually born on a Thursday - close enough. :) Here's what's happening this week:
  • Big Boy - On Thursday Charlie weighed 9 pounds, 8.5 ounces and he has outgrown most of his newborn clothes.
  • Daily changes - Like everyone says, babies grow so fast. Charlie is now smiling every day and he focuses more on objects and people.
  • Demanding - He has also become more demanding about what he wants. He'll cry when I leave him alone for too long, like if I'm putting away laundry and he's in his swing, I get about 5-10 minutes before he gets fed up and wants me to stay with him or pick him up.
  • Nighttime routine - We have a good evening routine started for bedtime. I try to get him to sleep around 10. About an hour before that he gets a bath, or just undressed and wiped off with a washcloth. Then we go into his room and turn on music for his last feeding, read a book (Brown Bear, Brown Bear), change him, swaddle him, and rock him for a few minutes with the lights out. When we lay him in his crib he is half asleep. On good nights he goes right to sleep but he usually wakes up after 10 minutes or so and cries. We just go back in and rub his belly for a minute and he goes back to sleep. On bad nights that can go on several times. He is officially in his own room now and has been sleeping there every night for at least a week.
  • Sleeping at night - Charlie is still going about 3-4 hours between feedings at night. There were two nights in the past week when he slept for 5 hours. Last night was Kyle's night to get up with Charlie and he slept over 6 hours for the first time. Life is not fair sometimes.
  • LOUD Charlie - Our baby boy is still very expressive in his sleep, while eating, pretty much while doing anything.
  • Eyes - It's hard to tell what color Charlie's eyes will be. Right now they look grey. Memaw (Kyle's paternal grandmother) has grey eyes, so it's possible that his eyes will stay that color. Kyle thinks they will turn green.
  • Easy baby - We are constantly told what an easy baby Charlie is and we can't argue with that. He's demanding but he rarely cries without being wet, hungry, tired, or bored. He's usually very calm and sweet. We are SO thankful for our sweet boy!!
