The End of Basketball Season

Charlie first basketball season may have started off rocky, but it ended on a high note. During the very last game, Charlie scored his first basket with only 15 seconds left on the clock! Everyone was SO excited for him!

Here are some other videos from the game.

After the game, we had a party with the team and handed out trophies.
We all enjoyed basketball season!!

Holly at 4

Oh Holly Monster. I love this feisty little one so much.

She is a great complement to Charlie. Where he is nervous and shy, she is brave and outgoing.  While he wants to run and run all day long, she complains every freaking time we walk (about 50 yards) to the bus stop. She loves her tumbling class, but she usually complains about halfway through that "it's so much work." Holly loves watching movies, snuggles, dancing to music, eating snacks (especially french fries and cheese)! She loves to play pretend, especially "babies" and "family."

She can recognize most of her letters and she can write her name. She is doing well in school this year and has not had to go see the principal at all. She loves her teachers and her friends. Next year, she will go 5 mornings a week for Pre-K.

She surprises me with random questions all the time like this morning in the car when she asked out of nowhere, "What did you lay on when I came out of your belly?" I told her "an operating table" and she said, "I've never been on an operating table but I saw one on Doc McStuffins." All month she has told people that "I'm going to be 4 at the end of this month!"

She has decided to move to Ohio when she is a grown up because "that's where Ms. Debbie's (her teacher from last year) daughter lives." She said that way Ms. Debbie can visit her when she visits her daughter. Also, since Ohio is far away, she "can ride a motorcycle and Mommy can't say no." I thought this was a one-time discussion, but she has been consistent about this decision for months. We'll miss her in Ohio. :)

She's brilliant, funny, happy, loud, stubborn, and loving. Happy Birthday, baby Holly!!

Here are some recent pictures of our 4-year-old!

Running around the house listening to music on her headphones...in tutu.

Looking way too grown up at lunch.

At the movies with Mommy

She put her headband on all by herself.

Cutie-pie in carpool

When you're the only one at tumbling, you get a private lesson with Coach Justin.

This picture needs no caption.

Watching TV with Holly and she says, "Mom, something's wrong with my eyes. I think I'm kinda blind cause I can't see that Hibachi man's face on the T.V." I explained to her the process of signing a release form to be on television and blurry faces.

Morning carpool is a great time for selfies.

Charlie Basketball - Part 2

After the rough start to the season, Charlie has found his stride in basketball. He is almost always the smallest kid on the court, but he doesn't play like it. He enjoys it so much that he asked to play basketball again this spring instead of baseball. He still hasn't made a basket in a game, but he has only tried a few times. He usually passes the ball to one of the 2-3 kids that score most of our points. We have several kids on the team who can score almost every time they shoot the ball. We're 9-0 with one game left to go!

Here are some highlights of Charlie in last week's game. He is number 3.

Charlie's 6 Year Check-Up

Charlie's had his 6 year check up at the doctor. His vision was 20/40, which they said is fine as long as he isn't complaining about not being able to see. His hearing was fine. His height is 42-3/4" (7%) and his weight is 38.4 lbs (7%). The only thing the Doctor mentioned of concern is that his cholesterol is 205. Anything over 200 is considered high. They wanted to do a fasting lipid panel blood test, which would break it out into the "good" cholesterol and "bad" cholesterol. From there, if it is his "bad" cholesterol that is too high, they would want us to start following some dietary guidelines to make sure he isn't eating too much cholesterol. We decided not to do the follow-up blood work. Charlie already eats a diet that is low in cholesterol and he is far from overweight. I have had high cholesterol since I was a child and so have many people in Kyle's family. I think it's just hereditary and we will continue to watch it as he grows up. Overall, he is a healthy kid and we are SO THANKFUL everyday for that!!

Mom's 36th Birthday

We went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner on my birthday (cheese fries...yummmm). On the way there, we realized that the last time we went to Outback was on my birthday 6 years ago, when Charlie was only a few weeks old. In fact, they sat us in the same table. Here is a picture of us this year...

and here is a picture of Charlie and I on my 30th birthday.

The look on her face is so ornery in this picture!

Poor Jackie wasn't moving very well for a few days. We were so worried about her.

Charlie helped me take her to the vet. She jumped up and tried to sit on him in the car. It turned out that she had strained her neck somehow. We gave her muscle relaxers for a few days and she was all better!

Happy Birthday Aunt Lynn

Our Annual Birthday Videos for Aunt Lynn

Charlie lost his first (and second) tooth!

Charlie has had a permanent tooth coming in on the bottom for a few weeks now. He refused to touch (or let anyone else touch) the baby teeth around it so I couldn't tell if it was loose or not. I called the dentist and they wanted us to come in. Charlie was freaked out. I expected him to cry the whole way there, but he held it together. He whined a lot and kept saying, "Mom, I REALLY don't want to go to the dentist."

Once there, they took an x-ray of his teeth and did an exam. They said we could keep trying to get the baby tooth out on our own if we didn't want to have it pulled, but we would need to wiggle it every day. I knew that would be a battle, so I decided to just have them pull it. It was actually very loose. Since the permanent tooth next to it would also be coming in soon, they suggested we just have both baby teeth pulled.

Then we had to tell Charlie. He didn't take it well, but we calmed him down enough to get the Nitrous mask on, and things got better quickly. He complained that the air was blowing in his eyes so they gave him some sunglasses to wear too. Here he is after he calmed down, watching the movie, Up, on the TV above him.

And just like that, he had lost his first two teeth! He didn't want to put them under his pillow for the tooth fairy. I think the idea of a fairy coming into his room was (understandably) a bit scary. I suggested we put them under the pillow in the guest room and he was okay with that.

The next morning Charlie was excited to find that the tooth fairy had come!

Now he and his friend Emily have matching missing teeth!
